Exploring the path to enhanced efficiency and cost optimization in upstream energy operations
April 15, 2024
In our groundbreaking study, we have conducted an in-depth analysis comparing the life-cycle costs (LCC) of vacuum degassing (VT) and membrane deaeration (MDA) technologies, which are pivotal for removing oxygen from injection water in the upstream energy sector.
The analysis aims to shed light on the potential benefits of each technology and identify the most cost-effective solution.
The traditional vacuum degassing method, utilizing VT, has long been the go-to for stripping oxygen from injection water. This process involves liquid water falling on random packing under vacuum conditions. In contrast, MDA is an emerging technology wherein oxygen moves through a gas-permeable membrane toward an oxygen-depleted gas stream.
The comparison was based on real-world projects utilizing vacuum degassing across various capacities and encompassed performance, costs, life-cycle costs assessment, and general characteristics at various operating capacities.
The findings of this study hold immense potential to reshape industry practices, optimizing operations and cost efficiencies.
