Cannon Artes is proud to announce that it has been awarded a contract to deliver an important water treatment and reuse plant for Kanadevia Inova, a world leader in the design, build and operations of waste-to-energy facilities. We will be responsible for the engineering and supply of the water treatment package for the first full-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project at a UK waste-to-energy facility.
This pioneering decarbonization project will contribute to the capture and storage of CO2 emitted from the Encyclis Protos waste-to-energy plant located in Cheshire. Our involvement will play a key role in a plant that not only processes waste sustainably, but is also committed to capturing the CO2 emissions and reducing the impact of treating non-recyclable waste that might otherwise be landfilled.
The project will treat the blowdown from the cooling towers at the carbon capture plant, to produce softened water which will then be reused within the CCS Scheme.
The chosen plant configuration will include a pre-treatment, this is composed of prefiltration and Ultrafiltration (UF) which will eliminate the solids and larger particles present in the streams. In addition, demineralization will take place by using Reverse Osmosis and this will produce desalinated water that fully complies with the conductivity requirements for the reuse in the CCS system.
This will allow the reuse of a stream that would have been wasted, limiting the effluents generated by the CCS facility and providing water needed by the system at the same time.
Our involvement in the plant started at an early stage, with a constructive discussion on the challenging characteristics of the project. Our experience in treating wastewater from CCS facilities allowed the selection of the most suitable technologies, tailored to the limited footprint and strict project constraints. The work carried out has enabled the definition of an optimal configuration, aligned with both quality needs and environmental requirements
This project will contribute to a landmark UK development in the decarbonization of waste treatment, supporting a system capable of achieving negative emissions.
