Cannon Artes is proud to announce the award for a project by SICIM S.p.A. The team will provide a Produced Water Treatment package for installation in the “EPC of Produced Water Treatment and Water Injection Facilities expansion at West Qurna 2” project for LUKOIL in Iraq, executed by SICIM as an EPC Contractor.
West Qurna-2, located near Basra, Iraq, is one of the world’s biggest onshore oilfields. The onshore project, owned and operated by Lukoil (75%) and North Oil Company (NOC, 25%), the state-owned company of Iraq, was first commissioned in March 2014 and is being developed in two phases. The total estimated oil reserves of the oil field equate to 14 billion barrels. With the current second phase, Lukoil and NOC target to achieve a total production capacity of 800,000 BPD at the field by 2025.
The important contract awarded to Cannon Artes covers the engineering, procurement & workshop construction of the produced water treatment & sludge thickening and dewatering package, treating a total flow rate of 1320 m3/h equal to nearly 200 kbpd.
The main aim of the unit is to reduce the significant inlet oil and suspended solids content to negligible levels while maintaining a low concentration of dissolved oxygen to enable reinjection into the oil field and assure steady oil production.
The produced water treatment system is composed of the following main treatments:
- Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI)
- Induced Gas Flotation (IGF)
- Walnut shell filters
- Final polishing with Cartridge filters
The application is particularly challenging because of the small size of oil droplets and the suspended solid particle size distribution, with most particles well below 20 microns. For this reason, a specific section is implemented to increase the size of the flocs and allow an effective separation.
Furthermore, the inlet-produced water contains high chlorides and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which requires the use of high alloy metals and sour service conditions.
“We are particularly proud of being awarded this milestone contract and thank Sicim and Lukoil for trusting our company. This job enables Cannon Artes to further deploy its proprietary flotation and walnut shell filtration technologies and consolidate the twenty-year-long experience in produced water treatment.”- Ms. Sarah Livings, Cannon Artes’ Area Manager, commented.
SICIM is among the world’s leading companies for the engineering, procurement, and construction of pipelines and oil & gas plants. With nearly 60 years of activity, over 15000 km of gas pipelines and projects running worldwide, it counts more than 6500 workers working in the 25 branches worldwide and a turnover exceeding 500m€.
LUKOIL is one of the world’s leading companies for crude oil and gas production and their refinement into petroleum products and petrochemicals, accounting for around 2% of the world’s oil production and 1% of the proved hydrocarbon reserves.
