A tailor-made water treatment system for the pharmaceutical sector
A European leader in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical sector — specialized in research, development, and commercialization of treatments for ocular diseases — chose Cannon Artes to upgrade its production infrastructure with high-efficiency, low environmental impact water treatment solutions, fully aligned with its high standards and strong commitment to sustainability.

The challenge
The client launched a plant modernization project aimed at increasing production capacity while improving automation, operational safety, and environmental efficiency.
In this context, implementing an advanced solution for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment was essential — one capable of reliably managing complex effluents in full compliance with current regulations.
The project
Our team delivered a turnkey system for the treatment and centralized management of wastewater generated during the production of ophthalmic products.
The solution reduces chemical consumption, simplifies maintenance, and enables the plant to treat all effluents, ensuring that discharged water fully complies with regulatory limits for the pharmaceutical sector.
The supplied solution
The plant is designed to treat up to 10 m³/h of wastewater containing surfactant concentrations exceeding discharge limits, which are typical of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
The system includes:
- A lifting station for managing incoming flows
- Safety filtration for preliminary contaminant removal
- Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filtration for effective adsorption of surfactants, organic compounds, and suspended solids
The plant is fully automated and integrated with the facility’s digital infrastructure, in line with Industry 4.0 requirements. Thanks to continuous monitoring and full interconnection with the production system, the company benefits from precise performance control and highly efficient management of pharmaceutical wastewater.
