Abu Dhabi oil company

The client is a national oil company in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The overall project involves developing an offshore oil field.

The challenge

The client was looking for a partner to supply a Produced Water Treatment plant to separate oils and suspended solids from water and allow reinjection or disposal.
Produced waters contain an extremely high concentration of chloride and hydrogen sulfide.
Due to the offshore installation, the equipment had to be compact, lightweight, and of the utmost reliability.

The project

Hydrocyclones are the most compact and reliable liquid-liquid separation technique.

The highest-quality metals and components are used; the piping and internal cladding of the vessels are made with Inconel 625, an alloy containing 58% nickel, plus chromium, molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, and other metals that make it highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion.

The supplied solution

Oil is first separated from the water via deoiling hydrocyclones, after which the residual gases are separated by lowering the pressure in two degassing units.

Water is then filtered and pumped back underground in a disposal well. The plant design capacity for produced water treated corresponds to 50,000 barrels a day or 250 m3/h.
