Finagricola soc. coop. was founded in 1986 by a group of independent farmers who chose to share the same know-how acquired directly in the fields. Their “co-working“ philosophy was developed to preserve their knowledge and natural heritage and increase their visibility on the market.
At present, Finagricola based in Piana del Sele (SA), a highly favourable area from climatic and sun exposure, boasts a prime position in all market fields where it operates.
Before Cannon Artes’s intervention, the wastewater effluent from the Finagricola plant was treated with traditional activated sludge technology designed for a different situation no longer fit for current products and business plan.
Wastewater was discharged without recovery possibility so Cannon Artes, a leader in water treatment since 1977, was contacted to figure out how to match their new production lines’ requirements with the company’s actual availability in terms of plant footprint.
Available room space was the main bottleneck of the project. In fact, one of the strongest recommendations from the customer was to save as many existing concrete basins as possible, even if water effluent from the new equipment installed was increased by about 40% and with a higher organic pollutant level. Moreover, the final objective was to obtain a better effluent quality for internal re-use inside some process phases.
To solve these challenges, Cannon Artes proposed a multi-step approach to increase treatment capacity of the wastewater plant.
Oil removal was achieved using Dissolved air Flotation technology; a very compact package which, through chemicals and insufflated air, drastically reduces light material content.
Instead upgrading of the biological unit was done by implementing an MBR process (Membrane Bio Reactor) which enhances biological performances and organic pollutant removal in the oxidation basin.
This combination made it possible to maintain the dimensions of the existing basins unvaried without having to carry out new civil works and guaranteeing a water quality compatible with the reuse objective that Finagricola had set.
Cannon Artes first realized an executive project to select the most reliable suppliers and equipment and then provided the main critical items (DAF and MBR) fully supporting the client for other ancillaries procurements. After installation, Cannon Artes supervised the commissioning activity until full operation of plant and verification of the system output parameters requested.
